IES Valentín Turienzo, Colindres

We are a public, bilingual secondary high school of average size in a small town in northern Spain (Colindres). It imparts compulsory secondary education (12 – 16 years), non-compulsory, preparing for college (16 – 18 years) and teaching high school subjects and vocational physical education (from 18 to 20 years old).

Our educational centre has participated in European projects for 8 years.

It is composed of 600 students and 70 teachers. Colindres has 9000 inhabitants with an important percentage of low income level, immigration and risk of social exclusion. There are pupils with physical and sensory disabilities and also students with educational difficulties. The school is provided by specialists to support and work on the inclusion of all the students.

We have a Commission of European projects to coordinate the tasks of the project and to
disseminate the knowledge on the educational community.

Our high school develops activities related with the areas of this project from these departments: - Orientation Department coordinates/promotes programs/workshops on specific aspects of integration of immigrants and social inclusion of students with disadvantaged situation. Teachers specialized on working with these students create programs that are developed in coordination and direct participation of the different departments of the centre, such as Mathematics, Sciences. Besides we have an Intercultural Coordinator (teacher specialized in help new students from other countries) - Technology department, formed with 4 technology teachers specialized in new educational
technologies, so in this project our school could provide the teaching of these digital programs to our partners.
